Pros and Cons to Having a Spring Wedding

Pros and Cons to Having a Spring Wedding

Spring is a time of renewal and new life. Your wedding video and pictures filled with flowers blooming, birds in the air with sweet chirping and trees experiencing a rebirth. If this describes how you envision your wedding, then it’s time to consider planning a spring wedding. There are so many benefits to having a spring wedding, but also a few logistics to be aware of and ready to tackle before sending the invitations. Here are the pros and cons of tying the knot in the spring.

There are so many great options for flowers in bloom during the spring, so you won’t have to worry about finding fresh peonies, roses, sweet peas, lilacs, hydrangeas, tulips, calla lilies, gerbera daisies, alstromerias, and sunflowers. You will also have many different colors and arrangement ideas to choose from and may save money on the flowers because they are in season. Besides bouquets, fresh flowers are delightful to decorate with, from pillars of flowers at the ceremony to arrangements for the table centerpieces.

Bright colors fill the scenery as flowers and trees begin to bloom and it’s fun to incorporate some of these colors into your wedding. Choose one or two main colors unless you are having a rainbow themed wedding. Bold colors look amazing in wedding photos – especially outdoor photos, but combining too many colors can overwhelm the decor and take away from the bride, groom and wedding party in the photos.

Bridal Party Wearing Colors

Ideas for incorporating colors include the bride wearing a sash around her waist, bridesmaids wearing dresses and brightly colored shoes and groomsmen wearing a colorful satin tie.

Colors Make the Reception

Carry the theme of renewal through the table centerpieces with pastel colored table runners, a lantern or bird house and small vases of flowers. You can also include giant flower arrangements for a more natural use of color.

Colorful Wedding Cake

Adding color to the cake will make it even more eye catching and you can have a lot of fun doing this! Have the cake decorator add thick ribbon around one tier or all tiers of your cake or colorful flowers that contrast with white frosting. Give you cake decorator freedom to incorporate color, but only include the main color you are decorating with – unless your goal is a rainbow themed wedding. Some brides love incorporating fresh flowers on the cake or edible flowers that match the bouquet and spring theme throughout the wedding.

Spring Wedding Photos

Plan to have at least a few of your bridal photos taken outside to capture the natural beauty of spring. Including props can be fun too, but don’t go overboard and take away from the flowers, rocks and natural elements the season has to offer.

Every season brings different planning logistics to work around and a spring wedding can bring unique challenges. Many of these simply mean you will need to consider a few things when finalizing your plans, but a few could derail your dream wedding day.

Unpredictable Weather

Spring is a beautiful time of the year, but the weather can be highly unpredictable from snowstorms to tornadoes. Stay updated on the weather forecast and have a backup plan if needed, especially if your wedding ceremony or reception is going to be outside. Move the wedding indoors if there is a high chance of rain (or snow!) or if the temperature is going to take a huge dive. Ask the venue where you are holding your ceremony and reception how they handle unexpected weather and how they will accommodate you and your guests.

Spring Break and Holidays

You also need to consider when schools will have their spring break, major sporting events and holidays if you will allow children at the wedding and if the majority of guests will have to travel over an hour. Easter weekend is typically always a busy weekend and a good one to avoid.

Although spring is beautiful, it can be a miserable time for many people who suffer from severe allergies. Keep this in mind especially if anyone on your bridal party has allergies and if you are planning an outdoor wedding. If allergies may make the day for some guests to enjoy, reserve an area that is covered during your outdoor ceremony and a few tables without flowers. You don’t have to cater to every single guest, but it’s important to be considerate of potential issues.

A spring wedding can be absolutely beautiful and fun to plan, but remember to be considerate of the date you choose and how it will fit into the schedule of your guests. Follow Mike Staff Productions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest for more wedding tips.
