Our first day started in Port Au Prince. While it’s still utter devastation, I think there’s been some improvement over the past year. We went by tent city and it’s still very sad. It’s estimated that 500k – 700k people still live there. It’s mind blowing to see it.
We stayed with missionaries in Port Au Prince who moved here 16 years ago from Ohio. They oversee an orphanage and are so unbelievably selfless & hospitable. We traveled to Pignon at 6:30am. It’s 80 miles NW of here & it’s fun to take the short flight over the mountains. I can’t tell you how much I looked forward to seeing the children again.
It was great to see the girls at LaCoste orphanage. I was able to see first hand the new mattresses in the rudimentary dorms. Last year the children slept on planks because there were no mattresses. Now the girls sleep on the mattresses that were sent by my Facebook friends during last year’s trip. THANK YOU for your generosity. It’s made a huge difference.
I am looking forward to sharing more about my journey with you in the days to come.
