Keep it Quaint: Best Venues for an Intimate Wedding

Many couples agree: size matters when it comes to wedding planning!

BUT…there can be something very sweet and beautiful about having a small, intimate gathering at your ceremony and reception, celebrating your love. With that being said, Mike Staff Productions put together a list of our favorite wedding venues that proves bigger isn’t always better!

Drum roll, please…

Here they are: our venue picks (in no particular order) that offer quaint setting for your nuptials, without sacrificing dreamy wedding day details.

The Iroquois Club

Website / Contact

If you’re looking for that all-natural, rustic yet elegant look — this Bloomfield Hills venue may be a great fit.

The ‘Great Room’ (main dining room) comes complete with a Wisconsin ledge-rock fireplace, dramatic cathedral ceilings topped by hard-wood beams and custom mission-style chandelier. This space gives couples the option to host a larger crowd.

The Prairie Rooms (two smaller meeting rooms) can be separated from the main dining room with concealed wall-dividers that have been custom designed for enhanced sound protection. Giving you that private, intimate setting. Sounds like you wouldn’t have to sacrifice ‘looks’ of the space either because you can adorned the divider walls with commissioned artwork.

Each Prairie room can seat 32 and they can also be combined into one room comfortably seating up to 64. How quaint!

The Reserve

Website / Contact

The thing about The Reserve, located in the heart of Birmingham’s emerging Rail District, is that it can accommodate a large wedding — the main ballroom can be opened into a single large room, holding up to 300 guests — but the venues intent is to reflect the image of other manors and private estates giving you an intimate feel.

Attention to detail is what makes this space a special option for a smaller wedding; mahogany wood, vaulted ceilings, a stone and granite fireplace and custom-designed glass chandeliers set the tone. The main ballroom can be divided into two rooms. There’s also a year-round heated tent couples and guests can utilize. At 1,200 sq feet it allows for an on-site ceremony, cocktail reception or even a dessert table.

This venue provides flexibility and detail that allows your intimate wedding to make a big impact.

Noah’s Events

Website / Contact

NOAH’s Event Venue in Auburn Hills knows how to make the most out of a petite space. Something that allows this newly opened venue to stand out — they want guests to look UP (when they aren’t looking at you – the bride, of course). When I say ‘up’ I am referring to the ceiling! You heard me, you’re able to choose from a variety of ceiling décor packages that will transform the main hall to help create your vision.

They feature a movable ceiling technology that allows your decorations to be suspended from the ceiling without the use of a ladder. Whether you want a soft, romantic look or something more modern, we have a variety of options to choose from to make your vision a reality.

When it comes to the layout, food, (some) décor — you call the shots and need to bring in outside vendors.  A variety of items are included; tables, chairs, linens, lantern centerpieces etc.

Eagle Tavern at Greenfield Village

Website / Contact

From historic structures, Model T’s and horse drawn carriages, if you’re looking to go back in time, Greenfield Village has a variety of unique venues to host a wedding — Eagle Tavern being one of them. We’re talking 19th century Michigan hospitality dating back to 1849.

During that century, a stage line was operated between Detroit and Tecumseh. As traveling increased and roads were made possible for stagecoach travel, taverns were built along this route. Originally known as Parks Tavern when built in Clinton, Michigan, around 1831, this building was renamed the Eagle Tavern in 1849. It was one of the first of the taverns built in this area and one you can get married in, accommodating anywhere from 75 – 135 guests.

The Whitney

Website / Contact

It may be small, but when it comes to weddings in Detroit, The Whitney packs an elegant punch! Once declared “Detroit’s Most Romantic Restaurant,” The Whitney has been a popular venue for hosting intimate weddings.

The Whitney Mansion has an array of rooms to host your reception, as for your ceremony you have the choice to exchange your vows indoors or outdoors.

Indoor Options:

Second Floor Great Hall.  The bride will descend the stairs into an intimate setting full of friends and family. The hall can seat up to 60 guests with limited standing room available.

The Second Floor Landing (between the Second and Third Floors)  Your vows will be backlit by a Tiffany stained glass window. Up to 30 guests can be seated around the railing of the third floor and up to 42 guests can be seated on the second floor looking up, totaling 72 seated guests.

The Garden:

Their colorful garden comes complete with stone fountains, foliage and wrought iron fencing. It can seat up to 120 guests, with chiavari chair rental, not provided by The Whitney. The Whitney will provide 80 black garden chairs for your outdoor ceremony. Additional standing room is available.

3 Steps to Building the Ultimate Wedding Package

1. Pick Your Wedding Photographer(s)

Whether you want ultra-creative or classic photos, our professional wedding photographers can deliver whatever kind of aesthetic you’re looking for. Each photographer offers their own unique professional approach to wedding photography, and you can pick the right one for you. The photography is just the start of the ultimate wedding package.

2. Pick Your Wedding Videographer(s)

One of the biggest regrets we hear from the over 25,000 couples we have served is that they didn’t get a professional wedding video made. Don’t let that be your regret! Like our photographers, our videographers can create cinematic wedding videos that spotlight your love. Whatever you’re looking for, our videographers will deliver a wedding video that you’ll be able to enjoy for years and share with future generations.

3. Pick Your Wedding DJ & MC

In order to capture photos and videos of the touching, hilarious and memorable moments at your wedding reception, you’re going to need the right music at the right time. The final piece of the ultimate wedding package, our DJs will bring your wedding celebration to the next level. Pick the music, don’t pick the music, create a “do not play list”, or give us no list at all, we’ll get to know you and your guests and construct a playlist that fits just right. But our DJs do more than just play songs, they bring energy to your wedding with engaging announcements, introductions and more.
