Celtic Wedding Traditions

Incorporating Celtic wedding customs into your wedding day is a great way to celebrate your family heritage. Here are few wedding traditions to consider for your wedding day:

Celtic Music. Bagpipes are often the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Scottish music. Consider having a bagpiper for your ceremony recessional or wedding reception grand entrance. Your wedding DJ can assist you in developing a play list or wedding jigs or drinking songs to use during your wedding reception.

The Loving Cup. At a Scottish wedding, the couple drinks for the Quaich, also known as the Loving Cup, that has been passed down through their families. The Quaich has a bowl shape with two handles. The Loving Cup symbolizes the joining of two families and is meant to bring good fortune to the newlyweds.

Irish Ingenuity. Many Irish brides braid their hair, traditionally a symbol of luck and feminine ingenuity.

Lucky Lavendar. Irish brides often carry English lavender in their bouquet as a symbol of devotion and loyalty. Lavendar is thought to bring about a lengthy marriage.

Real men wear kilts. If you want an authentic Celtic wedding, have your groom don a kilt; the customary, celtic wedding attire. It’s common to have groomsmen wear kilts too.

Go Green. Shamrocks may be the most iconic symbol of Irish tradition. Couples may opt for green-icing cakes, table linens, bridal party gowns, or serve green drinks such as green beer or green-apple martinis.

Traditional, first look. While it’s a fairly new trend for brides and grooms to see each other before the wedding, Irish couples have done this for years. An Irish couple would walk through the town, collecting well wishes and gifts on their way to the church. If you want to start your wedding photography before the ceremony, call it a Celtic tradition.

Celtic Bling. The Claddagh Ring has a fabled history, designed with two hands holding a heart, and adorned by a crown. While you will likely want a more contemporary wedding ring, the Claddagh may be worn on your right hand or incorporated in a necklace. You could also consider using it as part of your wedding decor; as a cake topper, wedding seal, or napkin logo.

Each photographer offers their own unique professional approach to wedding photography, and you can pick the right one for you. The photography is just the start of the ultimate wedding package.

2. Pick Your Wedding Videographer(s)

One of the biggest regrets we hear from the over 25,000 couples we have served is that they didn’t get a professional wedding video made. Don’t let that be your regret! Like our photographers, our videographers can create cinematic wedding videos that spotlight your love. Whatever you’re looking for, our videographers will deliver a wedding video that you’ll be able to enjoy for years and share with future generations.

3. Pick Your Wedding DJ & MC

In order to capture photos and videos of the touching, hilarious and memorable moments at your wedding reception, you’re going to need the right music at the right time. The final piece of the ultimate wedding package, our DJs will bring your wedding celebration to the next level. Pick the music, don’t pick the music, create a “do not play list”, or give us no list at all, we’ll get to know you and your guests and construct a playlist that fits just right. But our DJs do more than just play songs, they bring energy to your wedding with engaging announcements, introductions and more.
